How the duration is worked out
We subtract the start from the end in your time zone. If a daylight saving change falls in between, the real elapsed time is used, so a night shift across the autumn change is one hour longer than the clock suggests.

Questions
How do I calculate hours between two times?
Subtract the start time from the end time. If the end is earlier in the day, it is on the next day: add 24 hours. 9:00 AM to 5:15 PM is 8 hours 15 minutes.
How do I turn minutes into decimal hours?
Divide the minutes by 60. 15 minutes is 0.25 hours, 30 minutes is 0.5 and 45 minutes is 0.75.
Does it work across days and months?
Yes. Set any start and end date. The result counts every day in between, including leap days.
