Open the world clockHow we keep time accurate
When the page opens we ask our time server, which follows atomic clocks, for the current time. We measure how long the answer takes to arrive and correct for it, then compare it with your device clock.
If your device is more than 1 second off, the chip above turns amber and tells you by how much. The clock on this page always shows the corrected time.
Questions
Is this the exact time?
Yes, to within a few hundredths of a second. We check against an atomic time server and correct for network delay. The chip shows how far your own device clock is off.
Why is my device clock wrong?
Device clocks drift a little every day and sync only now and then. A slow battery, a manual time setting or a missed sync can leave them seconds or minutes off.
What is UTC?
Coordinated Universal Time, the world's reference time. Every time zone is written as an offset from it, for example UTC−07:00 for Pacific Daylight Time.
