Tap a clock to start

Time control 5 min, no increment. Space or a tap ends a move.

How to use the chess clock

  1. Choose a time control, such as Blitz 3+2 (3 minutes each, plus 2 seconds per move).
  2. Black taps their clock, or presses Space, to start White's clock.
  3. After each move, tap your own clock. The increment is added to your time.
  4. When a clock reaches zero, that player has lost on time.

Time controls explained

A time control like 5+3 means 5 minutes for each player, plus 3 seconds added after every move (a Fischer increment). Bullet games are under 3 minutes each, blitz 3 to 10 minutes, rapid 10 to 60 minutes and classical longer than that.

On a phone, lay it flat between the players: the top clock is turned to face the player opposite. Under 20 seconds a clock turns amber, and under 10 seconds it shows tenths and ticks each second.

Questions

Who presses the chess clock first?

Black starts the clock, which starts White's time. After that, each player presses after making their move.

What is increment in chess?

Extra time added to your clock after every move. With 3+2, you get 2 seconds back each time you move.

Can I use this chess clock on a phone?

Yes. Open it full screen and put the phone between the players. The screen stays awake while a game is running.
